AHH YEAR IN REVIEW 2007: American Gangster All-Star Review
It is still a good possibility that people can do different things and still be accepted commercially as well. I think that was a highlight for me. It's hard to tell if this is a classic, classics are defined by time. I don't know if it has that quality to it. I think for me it was more a refreshing kind of change of what was going with all the ringtone rapping. - JR Writer: No comment. - Mr. Collipark: Can I be honest with you? I didn't buy it. I tried to buy it once on I-Tunes (laughs). Quite honestly I don't go to the store that much. From what I heard so far though, I like it better compared to what I heard on the last album (Kingdome Come). That's why I probably didn't make a point to just go get that record feel me? I feel like music is going through something right now and for me I'm playing my old music.
Motor Sports Notes: Sources: Stewart allegedly hit Kurt Busch at ...
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. A meeting at the NASCAR hauler Friday night after an on-track incident between drivers Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch ended abruptly when Stewart allegedly struck Busch and left, said four sources with knowledge of the incident. The altercation was the reason NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter told media outside the hauler another conversation with the drivers would be held Saturday morning, the sources said. Stewart was seen exiting the rear entrance of the NASCAR hauler not long after both drivers arrived. Busch remained far longer, sources said. .
Goldman bright spot in a grim bonus year
Heavy losses from the collapse of subprime mortgages in the US have left bankers in the City and Canary Wharf nervous about their jobs and pay, while many now expect a sharp slowdown in business next year. However, while thousands face lower bonuses than last year, Goldman Sachs was this week preparing to shower its employees with record payouts. The US bank has already set aside $16.9bn (£8.2bn) for the first nine months of the year to pay staff salaries, benefits and bonuses. The pot is bigger than the whole of last year's, putting Goldman bankers on course for a bumper Christmas after the firm managed to avoid much of the mortgage meltdown. Among the big winners will be the firm's partner managing directors such as chief executive Lloyd Blankfein, who could be in line for a $75m cashand-stock pay package this year, and takeover specialist Simon Dingemans, who could earn more than $10m.
2008 Honda Accord EX sedan is able but clunky
Everyone but maybe Toyota likes Honda, the aloof, coolish engineer nerd of the auto industry. From snarling, wheel-standing crotch rockets to cheap, hard-edged Civic sedans, Honda builds unusually balanced, dynamic vehicles – a result, I think, of the company's vast racing experience. We love them here at the Daily Planet. If you sent out an e-mail saying there was a Honda with its lights on in the garage, our high-tech newsroom – Truth Central, I call it – would empty as hordes of reporters and editors loped outside to save their cherished Civics, Accords, Pilots and Odysseys. (Maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But I'm sure I wouldn't have much company inside if that happened.) So why was I so conflicted about the 2008 Accord EX I had recently, a four-door sedan that, at about 3,600 pounds, is now heavier than some Buicks and stranger-looking than many 5-series BMWs? After all, most of my colleagues in the automotive media continue to heap praise on the Accord, as competent and complete a sedan as ever.
Feds: Man's guilty plea reveals two-state auto theft ring
HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - Federal authorities say a man who pleaded guilty to transporting stolen cars is helping authorities expose a multimillion-dollar auto-theft ring involving hundreds of victims across Indiana and Illinois. Thirty-nine-year-old Mahmoud Yusef Nassar of Schererville was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Hammond to 37 months in federal prison. Court records say Nassar pleaded guilty to transporting two stolen cars - a Porsche and a Kia - across state lines after he paid dealership employees to give him the car keys. Nassar's sentencing memorandum states that he gave up names and organizational details on the inner workings of an auto-theft ring involving hundreds of victims. Court records say that information already has led to search warrants and statements from others.
