Large ocean-going ships traveling a good clip require a great deal of energy to turn the rudder and change its course. This is due to their momentum and the density of the water that must be overcome. However, if a small flap - trim tab - is placed on the trailing edge of the rudder right above the water level, it can be turned with a relatively small amount of energy. When it turns, it creates a partial vacuum, which in turn pulls the rudder and ultimately changes the course of the ship." Watson described the efforts of the 22-acre New Alchemy Institute in Hatchville where he worked as education director. Founded in the 1970s, New Alchemy was a leader in what Watson described as "Appropriate Technology" and its mission "was to develop environmentally sound approaches to meeting society's basic needs: food, energy, energy, shelter and clean water." (follow this link for text of Watson's remarks)More than three decades ago, New Alchemy researchers "demonstrated that we know how to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels," Watson said.
On your mind
We ought to honor our bodies enough to make the restroom the first stop inside a restaurant. If it is spotless, has ventilation, secure locks, soap, touchless hot water and plenty of paper towels without having to handle dispenser knobs and door handles, the facility is worthy of our patronage. The ideal restrooms in town are at the police station (where there is still a door to contend with, going in and out), and the public library where the rest-room entry/exits have no door, but a wide open space where two patrons can pass without bumping into one another. A perfect example for the restaurateurs in town who should not need sanitation lessons. Kudos to the library director and to the commissioners who planned the safest, cleanest restrooms in Arizona at the Sierra Vista Public Library. Thanks to the city for funding the library. I think it is about time that Sierra Vista have red light cameras installed at our intersections.
Harvick denied Martin but made history at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Last year's Daytona 500 was just as much about Mark Martin as it was about Kevin Harvick, the race winner. Martin, 49, the NASCAR Sprint Cup series veteran, has never won a Daytona 500. He appeared ready to do so, finally. The raced ended under a green-white checkered and with two laps to go, Martin had the lead. With the checkered flag in his sights, Harvick came up beside Martin, who with all the drivers in the lead pack was driving on the inside of the speedway, on the outside in Turn 3. By Turn 4, they were side-by-side. .

Dogs attack, hospitalize Blount animal control officer
I have worked with many dogs voluntarily growing up and pit bulls are the easiest ones I have came across to train. I have never owned one because their strength. I have owned other types of dogs. I remember when Rottweilers were the "bad breed" and now its pit bulls. I am going to take a guess here and say that German Shephards will be next. All dogs can be trained to attack. I only wish that people who want dogs really look into all the information that is available before getting one. If I was able to handle the strength of a pit bull, yes I would have one. In response to DeermanI have seen a golden retreiver attack someone because of the way it was trained. This dog was trained to attack. It doesn't matter how docile an animal is, it all goes back to the OWNER!!!! .
Open-wheel deal is done, and gears shift with season opener coming ...
With America's two open-wheel series finally unified, the calendar poses the next roadblock: The season-opening race is just five weeks away. At this point, nobody knows how many teams and cars will move from the now-defunct Champ Car World Series to the Indy Racing League's IndyCar Series in time for the March 29 opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway. "The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive," IRL spokesman Fred Nation said Saturday. "There has been great interest from most of the Champ Car teams. They will be welcomed with open arms as we have teams from CART (the forerunner of Champ Car) over the years. Already there is a wonderful sense of camaraderie and relief that this long family squabble is over." The IRL is planning a meeting Monday in Indianapolis for most of the Champ Car teams.
AdSense Earnings Down?
More than conversion rate goes into determining the price of an ad: the advertiser's bid, the quality of the ad, the other ads competing for the space, the start or end of an ad campaign, and other advertiser fluctuations." Keep in mind also that Google has the leader in CPC inflation rate, also. Google denies that clickthrough rates affect the price of an ad click, though they don't go into how much weight is put on user action beyond the click, i.e., sales completed, forms filled out, engagement on the site that follows. Google describes smart pricing this way: "Google's smart pricing feature automatically adjusts the cost of a keyword-targeted content click based on its effectiveness compared to a search click. So if our data shows that a click from a content page is less likely to turn into actionable business results -- such as online sales, registrations, phone calls, or newsletter signups -- we reduce the price you pay for that click." But observers are right also to note that the higher quality the site, the higher likelihood the publisher gets high quality, costlier, better-converting ads.
